Joppa Students Taking Action Responsibly at School

The mission of J-STARS is to help students discover the importance of taking a responsible role in decision making for themselves and in the community. There is no fee to join J-STARS; however a parent/guardian must complete and sign the attached permission slip. Students that join will participate in a grade level appropriate community service project to demonstrate Responsible actions in their community. The following projects have been selected and will be completed during the 2020-2021 school year:

Pre-K - Caps for cancer patients at Children's Hospital
Kindergarten - Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home
1st - Grainger County Humane Society
2nd - New/gently used stuffed animals for police officers
3rd - Penny Drive to support Imagination Library
4th - East Tennessee Children's Hospital
5th - Litter Free School Zone project at Joppa
6th - Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home
In addition, to be a member of J-STARS students must exhibit Responsible, Respectful, and Ready behavior. If a student receives three office referrals or is assigned in/out of school detention he/she will be placed on probation for the remainder of the year and will not be eligible to participate in club activities.  To recognize their hard work in community service and responsible behavior J-STARS will have an opportunity to take a field trip at the end of the school year. We look forward to working with Joppa Students Taking Action Responsibility at School!
