Principal's Corner

Fall 2016

Image for Fall 2016

As we’ve settle into the new school year, teachers and students have established routines and procedures to ensure the best learning environment for all students. Teachers are focused on instruction that is differentiated to specific learners needs. DIBELS, the assessment used to help identify students that are at risk for reading difficulties, has been completed.

The implementation of RTI2, Response to Instruction and Intervention, in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade has been a major focus. The purpose of this multi-tiered approach to reading instruction is to provide quality instruction for all students, focusing on areas that need to be strengthened or enriched. This instructional model allows educators to work with groups of students with common goals through small group instruction targeting specific reading skills and strategies. In addition, it also permits time for enrichment activities to be offered to identified students. Throughout the year, teachers and staff will meet to collaboratively plan and implement this valuable program.

I encourage you to read nightly with your child. Communicate with their teacher about specific strategies you could use at home to offer additional support to boost reading skills. Working together we can TEACH with rigor and relevance so that students will LEARN the skills and knowledge needed to SUCCEED in becoming community, college, and career ready.
